Jack S's Question:
I just got a bow online since im thinking about getting into archery. I thought that it would be easy, but as Im reading theres more and more info. I also cant find what bow I have, and the weight tag is missing. I have a bear compound bow, and says Black/Mag in small letters on the side. I looked on the website, and theres nothing similar. The serial is BM-15776. The weight pull is high, the guy said it was 50-60, but I would like to reduce it. Is it possible to reduce it down to 25 or less? My girlfriend will be using the bow also, so this draw is MUCH too heavy for her. We used a 10 pound draw during the intro class. Im only looking to shoot it for fun at targets, no hunting at all. I also read that you need heavy enough arrows so the bow wont get damaged. How do I find out? What kind of bow do I have? Thanks for any responses

my wife actualy shoots 50 lbs. there is no way to reduce this perticular bow beond that, because lower weight limbs are not made for it. you may want to look for your girlfriend a bow of her own, the draw length for you and her is probably different. most women/youth compounds run from about 30 -50 lb draw.most have adjustable draw lenght.so it can be fit perfectly to her.as far as arrows are concerend you are correct, too light of arrow can harm your bow. to heavy will cause preformance problems. with most carbon arrows they are labeled with draw weight now such as 55-75 which would work from 55 lb to 75 lbs. check out bass pro and cabelas. both websites have a shaft selection chart when ordering arrows that helps you choose the right shaft for you. if you are interested in a bow you can both shoot check out the mathews genesis bows the regular genesis goes from 10 to 20 lbs and 18 to 30 in draw lenght and allows anyone to shoot the same bow with no adjustment to lenght, i bought my daughter the genesis pro. it is 15 to 25 lb and has draw stop adjustment from 18 to 30 inches,, she is 8 yrs old and shoots it great.. or dad can pick it up and play a little.as far as care i use sting wax on my string. i wipe down metal parts with break free clp to protect from rust and keep it in a hard protective case to keep scratches off my bow. since you are a beginner you realy should visit an archery pro shop to let them help you with selection of bows arrows and accessories have fun with your new archery interest.
